Peter

Peter Cowsill MSc, CEng, CGeol, MIMM, FGSManaging Director. Peter is a Chartered Geologist, a Chartered Engineer, and since 1981, a Fellow of the Geological Society of London, and since 1985, a Member of the Institution of Mining and Metallurgy.

Experience in the industry spanning 30 years has covered a wide range of geotechnical arenas including site investigation design, supervision and interpretation for tunnelling projects, reservoirs, re-sewerage schemes, landfill sites, dewatering operations, opencast sites, contaminated sites, pipe-jacking, motorway, housing/industrial developments, road and railway works, ground stability and slope stability problems across the country and over a wide range of geological strata.

Legal work as an expert adviser has increased in recent years due to the depth and breadth of experience, and has culminated in presenting and winning numerous complex contractual arguments.

Education and early work experience

After gaining a first degree in Geology (The University of Manchester), Peter went on to gain an MSc in Engineering Geology (University of Leeds) whilst working as an Engineering Geologist with Edgar Morton and Partners, Macclesfield.  In {year}, Peter joined Sir William Halcrow Partners as acting Section Engineer and acting Senior Geotechnical Engineer on the Channel tunnel project. In 1988 Peter founded Peter Cowsill Ltd, as Managing Director.
